Season One!

After the critically acclaimed success of our other blog, baseballskinz.blogspot.com, Nick and I have decided to see if we can have as much luck picking winners in hockey as we have picking baseball. The rules may need to be tweaked since every team in baseball plays for 6 straight months and hockey takes breaks for 3 to 4 days at a time. Tweaks may come at the end of this first year or maybe in a month or two. Whatever rules we come up with will be in the soon to be created Rules post and link.

I would say to leave your thoughts below but only Nick and I can talk here.  So eat shit.

Enjoy.

  1. Facts!

The 2014-15 hockey season runs from Wednesday October 8th through Saturday April 11th.

There is a 3 day break around Christmas and another 5 day break in late January, probably for the allstar break.

This makes 178 days of hockey. Same as baseball which is cool. The only problem I see is that there are a few days with only 1 or 2 games and a bunch with 3.

12 days have only 2 games.
7 days have only 1 game.

If we leave it at the 178, its still first to 90 like in baseball. If we skip the days with only 1 game, then its first to 86. If we skip the days with 2 as well then it is first to 80. I kinda want to keep the days with 2 though.

If we do skip some days, we could do something special on those days like points gamble or try to pick which player will score a goal or we can go off of the odds on those days. What do you think?

  2. Also, I think we should keep the rule where you need to pick each team once a month (except April). It will be harder I think in hockey than in baseball.

I also think we should pick 3 games a day. And no back to back rule. Usually won't be an issue since teams only have a couple home & home matchups a year but with so few games a day sometimes, it will be tough if you don't have each team at your disposal.

We could also do something on days where there are more than 6 or 7 games. Either we pick a matchup for the other guy or block a matchup. that could be fun.

Don't want to make it too complicated. Just brainstorming.
